First up in my Inbox today was a reply to my post about networking vs advertising that made my jaw drop open.

So once I closed my jaw, I emailed back…
Hi Firstname,
You are kidding aren’t you?
You can’t have read or listened to the post I just put up. Please go back and do so if you actually have any interest in dealing with me.
Regards,
Martin Russsll
I have lots of interest in building networks with people. Don’t make it easy for me to sort you into the “don’t bother with” category.
Nuf said. I hope.

I’ve been thinking about how to handle this very situation, and I’m glad you brought it up.
I think you handled it well, but, as I’m sure you’re aware, your response will have little or no impact.
Here’s my latest theory.
Some people have very limited communication skills. Spamming you with a sales letter is appropriate for their current skill level. They cannot do better right now.
Maybe at a future time, if and when they’re at a different point on their learning curve, they will benefit from constructive criticism. We can hope, for their sake.
I’m attending a webinar tomorrow night called “Are You Making A Fool Out Of Yourself On Myspace And Facebook?”
It’s speaking to those people who are ready to improve their communication and networking.
I appreciate what you’re doing and wish you continued success.
Agreed Larry. I haven’t heard back from the emailer in the past 3 days. Well it might do some good to my readers at least. Maybe a quiet chuckle or two, or a bit of self-reflection.
Ah, I’ll fess up. I did it to get it off my chest!
For future emailers like this I will send them a link to this post. Shortens my reply
