SendOutCards Australia

[Official Announcement From SendOutCards Corporate - 03/ September / 2008

“This is an important announcement regarding our Australian card fulfillment.

As released at convention, we are now mailing cards out from Australia. All greeting cards that were sent through the Web site on Monday, September 1,at 12:00 a.m. Mountain Standard Time (MST) are being mailed from our Australian print facility with Australian postage …

The postage rate has been adjusted on our Web site to 42 cents. Postage is paid in US dollars and will be reviewed and adjusted as necessary according to the exchange rate … You should still expect delivery times of 3-4 days and hopefully by Monday we will have made the changes to reduce or eliminate the delay …

Also, Australian card and gift fulfillment will be completed in three phases. Here is a brief description of each phase:

Phase 1 - All greeting cards that do not have an insert will be mailed from a facility in Melbourne, Australia. All gift cards, gifts, and Daily 8 Tools will be shipped from our facility in Salt Lake City.

Phase 2 - You will have the ability to add a gift card or a Daily 8 Tool to a card. The gift cards will all be issued in Australia reflecting local vendors. The Daily 8 Tools will include the Success From Home magazine. We will also expand our shipping to adjacent areas.

Phase 3 - We will be shipping gifts from a local fulfillment house in Australia and, like the gift cards, these will all reflect local vendors.

We hope this e-mail clears up some questions you may be having regarding our new fulfillment capabilities in Australia, and we thank you for bearing with us as we experience a few growing pains.”]

Clarification:-

SOC has been open to Australians since 2006 and I’ve had hundreds of cards sent from head office in the US into Australia. SOC is available to anyone, anywhere in the world. If you are new to this, you can send a card here, on me, or contact me direct Martin@WordofMouthMagic.com / Skype: martinwrussell / Phone 08-8362 5500

-I have left the original January ‘08 post below for posterity -

There is no SendOutCards Australia office as yet, but the word is that instead of mailing from head office in the US, SOC will start printing and posting ‘across the pond’ in the very near future. I’ve been using SOC for almost 2 years now via international mailing from the US.

They were doing tests with a few different printers in Oz throughout 2007, and it seems like they might have finally settled on one that is suitable.

For people outside Australia this will mark a big step in the internationalization of SOC.

For people within Australia this will lower the postage costs, add extra mailing options, and shorten delivery times too.

  • NOTE:- If you want to keep updated on SendOutCards’ Australia move, go to the comments section and subscribe to this post. I’ll keep you informed as details change.

If you are doing business follow-up, networking or building connections internationally this will be a big advantage.

One of the best things for me has been easily sending cards, postcards, and thankyou gifts inside the US and Canada. I get all the convenience of the web-to-print technology, and it’s quicker and cheaper too, so it has added a new level to my online networking.

Now anyone in the world will be able to network into Australia just as easily, and this will be a model for moves into other countries in the future.

Also, if you have a local business in Australia the arrival of SOC will halve the postage costs.

Even more importantly since the local Australian mail is quite fast, a postcard or greeting card could as little as 2-3 days to arrive. That compares very well with the current 8-13 days I’m getting with most of my mailings.

SOC will presumably use the main SendOutCards.com website so payments will be in US dollars, and all their videos and training materials will still have American accents. They have one senior Australian voice in their company, Paul Gerardis, and hopefully Paul will help them change these eventually.

The biggest problem for me will be that I lose the WOW! factor of people who notice the US stamp and postmark, and wonder who is sending them cards from the US. (Obviously I’m taking the family on an overseas holiday and I just got it into my head to send them a card. What else could it be?)

I’ve enjoyed using SOC for Christmas and birthdays for my family scattered around the globe, as well as for networking and routine business follow-up.

Having SOC mailing out locally will be a great extra booster.

G’day SendOutCards. Australia says ‘Welcome!’

    Hi Martin,

Please keep me posted on Send Out Cards Australia.

Sorry - I missed your original email!

Thanks for the sample family Christmas card you sent - I was very impressed with the quality of the card, and the versatility of the options (i.e: family photo).

I personally think that for small business use, the fact that a stamped envelope is from Australia will gain trust from customers. I get mail from Singapore, the U.S, and it is often just direct mail spam (and low quality printing at that).

It turns me off of the product, and that is really what you want the potential customer to focus on - the ‘thing’ that you are trying to sell.

I noticed that the Hoard Clients website has now been bought out by Peter Montaya. Sample postcards, brochures and cards that I clicked on, are very corporate and boring. A potentially good product gone to waste, when a little humour and quirkiness would have gone a long way!

    Regards, Michele

  4. A little update on SOC…

There is still no set date for commencement in Australia.

However the pricing structure is a bit clearer.

SOC will be losing money on every card when it first begins printing. To recover a portion of that, cards sent in Australia will cost an extra point (US49c or US31c wholesale) until the volume picks up.

Effectively this means that with the cheaper local postage and $US changes, the cost per card will be roughly the same.

If you had been holding off for cheaper cards then you’ll be waiting not only until SOC comes to Australia, but also until it builds up enough volume.

Unsurprisingly, there will also be no local gifts initially as this too needs to be built up over time.

This progression is how it began in the US over the past 5 years, and the expectation is that each new country that opens will follow a similar growth curve in getting local resources into place.

Hope this helps you in planning for SendOutCards.
